City Manager Opts To Retire In February

By Sean C. Moore

Chino – City Manager Patrick Glover has announced that he will retire in February after working for the city of Chino for more than thirteen years.

Glover, who will be 55 next month, has spent 31 years working in local government.  After working in the cities of Los Angeles, Burbank, and West Covina, Glover was hired as Chino’s Director of Public Works and City Engineer in 1998. He has been in his current post as City Manager since 2007.

Glover said that he chose to retire because his contract with the city expires on Feb. 27.  “I thought it would be a good opportunity to explore other options, including my hobbies, traveling, and continued involvement in public service,” he explained.

Among his proudest accomplishments as Public Works Director, Glover listed “rebuilding the streets and constructing many critical storm drain projects,” and as City Manager, “maintaining quality service levels despite cutbacks; instituting pension reform; and completing projects both large and small, from the building of two new Fire Stations to the lighting of the Chino sign on Central Avenue.”

The city council is expected to begin discussion on what steps it will take to fill Glover’s position at its Jan. 17 meeting, and so far, no names of potential candidates have been officially released.  Glover said that he expects the most critical issue facing his successor will be “economic pressure from the state.”

“They’ll continue to look to local governments to fund their inability to manage their budgets over the coming years,” he remarked.

Mayor Dennis Yates issued a statement saying, “During Mr. Glover’s tenure, the City Council and I have always felt confident in his decision-making and strong commitment to the Chino community.  He will be missed.”
